Seaweed Bangle

Description

On a visit to the Folkestone Harbour Arm, the day after Storm Cierán in October 2023, I picked up a strand of seaweed that had been launched onto the walkway with the power of the stormy sea. I was amazed by the beauty of it’s natural organic texture and took a putty mould from it. From the mould, I created a silver cast of the strand and worked in a few simple designs to make it wearable. I discovered it is the Thongweed or Himanthalia Elongata variety, also known as Sea Spaghetti or Sea Thong.

This bangle is created using the longest strand that I had cast, the ends overlap to display the natural patina from root to tip.
