Description
On a visit to the Folkestone Harbour Arm, the day after Storm Cieran in October 2023, I picked up a strand of seaweed that had been launched onto the walkway with the power of the stormy sea. I was amazed by the beauty of it’s natural organic texture and took a putty mould from it. From the mould, I created a silver cast of the strand and worked in a few simple designs to make it wearable. I discovered it is the Thongweed or Himanthalia Elongata variety, also known as Sea Spaghetti or Sea Thong.
A simple strand of seaweed cast to create a pair of earrings.
Approximately 5mm wide x 40mm from top of the ear hook to end of the drop (seaweed drop 25mm).
Handcrafted at the inSilver studio using Eco/recycled silver.
